IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 60 YEARS AGO — Bill Robinson, a well-known Brandon gymnast, will leave for Vancouver where he will take part in the Dominion Gymnastics championships.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Wayne Culbertson and Ray McClean scored two goals each to spark the Blues to a 5-2 victory over Neelin in a Brandon Senior Soccer League game. Art Heide rounded out the scoring for the winners, while Bill Clark and Gerry Rocan replied for Neelin.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Winning pitcher Travis Hunter belted two home runs to pace Lenore Aces to a 14-6 victory over Buckingham Stubble Jumpers in a Virden and District Fastball League game. Lorne Elllis and Allen Bray also homered for the Aces, while Daryl Twigg slugged a home run and three singles for Buckingham.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Magic lost 10-6 to the Winnipeg Terminators in the provincial Bantam A girls’ softball final.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Curtis Vogel drove in a pair of runs with a 3-for-3 day at the plate to lead the Stratego Young Guns to a 7-5 victory over the Maple Leaf Titans in MacArthur Truck & Trailer Senior AA Baseball League action at Kinsmen Stadium.
• 10 YEARS AGO — After pouring in a lot of time and resources to get Optimist Park close to fully operational following the 2011 flood, the Brandon Youth Soccer Association is back to square one after a massive storm has flooded the soccer complex for a second time this summer.
