MINNEDOSA — Addison Kartusch concerned herself with one thing.

Or, one word: Process. She wrote it on her glove and let it be the theme of her Golf Manitoba women’s amateur championship run.

Kartusch led by five shots and extended it to six with a 5-over 77 at Minnedosa Golf and Country Club on Sunday to finish the three-day event just four strokes over par.

“It feels good,” she said. “It feels nice to finally get the win but I was just happy I focused on my process because that’s something I’ve been really focusing on.

“That’s all I can do. I can’t control the outcome so I stick to what I know best. I even wrote ‘Process’ on my glove just to remind myself to bring myself back into my own space when I start thinking about ‘how many shots am I ahead or behind?’”

Kartusch double-bogeyed two holes before play was suspended due to thunderstorms in the area on Saturday. She reset and dropped just two shots the rest of the way.

Kartusch maintained a solid buffer as Swan River’s Crystal Zamzow and Killarney’s Cala Korman slid back to third and fourth, respectively. Zamzow shot 80 to finish 12 over while Korman carded an 82 for 14 over. Two-time defending champ Jeri Lafleche raced up the board with a solid 3-over 75, finishing 10 over in solo second.

Kartusch, who also won the provincial women’s match play championship, is trending in a great direction heading into this week’s provincial junior at Niakwa Country Club, and for the fall when she heads to Bowling Green State University in Ohio to begin her NCAA Division I golf career.

For the first time, her winter will be all golf instead of hockey.

“It’s kind of nice to just focus on golf,” she said, “but I’m still focusing on fun because I think that’s where everyone kind of loses their enjoyment.”
