Veteran umpire Ernest Elder takes a break between innings on a perfect evening for Brandon Senior AA Baseball League action at Andrews Field. The GW Vacuum Truck Service Young Guns scored three runs in the top of the first, two more in the top of the second en route to recording a 5-2 win over the Westman Fire Protection Cubs Monday night to even their best-of-five series 1-1.

Westman Fire Protection Cubs catcher J.T. Martine slaps a low pitch down the first base line. Instead of running through the bag, he instead tried to dive into the bag, but was thrown out on the play.

Down 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mitchell Battersby of the Westman Fire Protection Cubs used his baseball hat as a rally cap, which might have worked, as J.T. Martine tripled to erase the goose egg, and scored on the next single to make it 5-2. But that was it with Battersby’s rally cap willing the Cubs onto victory.

Westman Fire Protection Cubs starting pitcher Carter Loewen has developed a side-arm delivery during the past few seasons in the Brandon Senior AA Baseball League. During his Monday night outing at Andrews Field, going the distance he gave up five runs in the first two innings to the GW Vacuum Truck Service Young Guns and took the loss following a 5-2 setback. He was stellar on the mound the rest of the way, often recording three-up, three-down innings thanks to his defence behind him. The best-of-five series is knotted at 1-1.
