60 YEARS AGO Murray Walker with 353 single and Fred Bell with 786 triple topped the men in five-pin bowling leagues at Recreation Lanes, while Bunny Bass was best for the women with 243 and 551.

50 YEARS AGO — Seven goals from seven players had the Deloraine Royals on top 7-3 against the Pierson Bruins in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Neil Melnyk, Dan Cassils, Dennis Olifcheski, Lyle Franklin, Wayne Coxworth, Doug Wotton and Don Coombs scored for the Royals.

40 YEARS AGORhonda Opperman tossed in 22 points to pace the Killarney Raiders to a 50-42 triumph over the Crocus Plainsmen in a junior varsity girls exhibition high school basketball game.

30 YEARS AGOTodd Hooper ripped a hat trick to pace the Minnedosa Bombers to a 10-3 victory over the Kenton Cougars in a North Central Hockey League game. Steven Smith and Ty Burton both scored twice for the Bombers.

20 YEARS AGO — Former provincial men’s champion Brian Fowler of the Brandon club qualified for today’s playoff round at the Brandon Men’s Bonspiel with a 6-0 triumph over Cam Thompson of the Wheat City in a B Event qualifier.

10 YEARS AGO — A trio of Skate Brandon competitors will represent Manitoba in figure skating at the 2015 Canada Winter Games. Brandonites Kirsten Gutenberg, 16, and Tori Thiessen, 15, will compete in novice ladies, while Hartney’s Casey Bertholet, 13, will skate in the pre-novice ladies’ division at the Games, slated for Feb. 13 to March 1 in Prince George, B.C. Skate Brandon’s Tammy McKay will serve as head coach of Team Manitoba, while Hartney’s Laurie Bertholet will be the manager of the four-skater Team Manitoba contingent.
