60 YEARS AGO — The Wheat Kings Junior B’s produced a 9-3 win over Neepawa’s Intermediate squad. Bob Shields led the Wheat Kings as he pumped home three goals. Marv Robinson and Jack Wells each banged in a couple and Bill Mikkelson and Roy McLauchlin added singles.

50 YEARS AGO — Minnedosa Bombers rattled in four unanswered goals in the third period, the final one into an empty net, on the way to an 8-5 victory over the Souris Elks in the SouthWest Hockey League. Dave LeBoutillier, Barry Chernos and Cliff McKague paced the Bombers with two goals apiece. Neil McDonald and Frank Taylor added singles for the winners.

40 YEARS AGO Tim Webber scored two goals to pace Hamiota Huskies to an 8- 7 victory over visiting Elkhorn Canadians in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Cam Schweitzer, Kelly Matheson, Calvin Strachan, Gord Lee, Dallas Strachan and Bruce Robinson had singles for Hamiota.

30 YEARS AGOMike Stott scored 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to pace the Crocus Plainsmen to a 61-56 victory over the Kelvin Clippers at the Kildonan East varsity boys’ high school basketball tournament.

20 YEARS AGO — Forward Bryan White of the Gladstone Lakers has been named the Tiger Hills Hockey League player of the week. White scored nine goals and added seven assists in three games for the Lakers.

10 YEARS AGOScott Ramsay won’t have to go very far to play for a provincial men’s curling championship this season. The Brandonite, who curls out of Winnipeg, secured his spot in the Safeway Championship, which will be held at Westman Place from Feb. 4-8, by being a top-four finisher in the Manitoba Curling Tour’s final points standings.
