• 60 YEARS AGO — Decker chalked up an 8-3 verdict over the Souris Elks with Ray Knight scoring half of the goals. Eddie Maher and Lyle Dennison accounted for the others with two a piece.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Sun announced today that Jack Brockest has been named Sportsman of the Year 1974 with runners-up Mark Fisher, Dan Halldorson, Neil McLeod, Bruce Stephens and Mike Vaira. Skip Don Barr, third Dan Hyrich, second Jack Fraser and lead Jim Thornborough make up the western Manitoba Team of the Year.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Ray Ferraro has captured the H. L. (Krug) Crawford Memorial Medal presented annually by the Brandon Sun to southwestern Manitoba’s Sportsman of the Year. Runners-up were Al Robertson, John Carson, Cam Plante and Jeff Partrick.
• 30 YEARS AGO — David Pulock and Darryl Hrehirchuk both had hat tricks to pace the Grandview Comets to an 8-4 win over the McCreary Selects in the North Central Hockey League.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Cory Billaney scored four goals and set up two others as the Pilot Mound Pilots blasted Swan Lake/Holland 10-3 Sunday in the Tiger Hills Hockey League.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings made their boldest statement to date that they want to take a run at the Western Hockey League title now, giving up young power forward Jesse Gabrielle to acquire high-scoring winger Morgan Klimchuk from the Regina Pats.
