The Brandon University women’s volleyball team took the first set but no more in their return to Canada West action on Thursday.
The Bobcats fell 3-1 (17-25, 25-18, 25-23, 26-24) to the Mount Royals Cougars (5-5) in Calgary in front of a crowd of 1,883.
Cassidy Hauta led the Bobcats with nine kills, four errors and two aces while setter Carly Thomson added five kills with 23 assists and eight digs.
Bronwynn Davies-Neira led all scorers with 15 kills and 16.5 points for MRU.
In the men’s match, Philipp Lauter posted 12 kills and Sam Chen added eight as the only Bobcats to hit somewhat well in a 3-1 (25-16, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22) loss.
Paul Dionne led the Cougars (3-8) with 12 kills as they dropped the Bobcats to 4-7.
The teams play again today, with the men starting at 7 p.m. CT and the women following at 9 o’clock.
