IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 60 YEARS AGO — Lawson Lords built up a 10-point lead at halftime then coasted to a 55-42 exhibition basketball triumph over College Caps. Brian Phillips led the winners with 14 points.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Dan Halldorson, Brandon’s only touring professional golfer and one of only four Canadians currently holding U.S. PGA player cards, has managed to qualify for the Tucson Open.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Bruce Lyons netted 26 points to pace Killarney Fighting Irish to an 83-57 romp over the Selects in a Brandon Senior Men’s Basketball League game. Len Harms added 22 points.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Neelin Spartans scored four players in double figures and came away with a 79-61 win over Saskatoon’s St. Joseph’s Guardians in the final of the F.W. Johnson Cage Classic varsity boys basketball tournament. Adam Philpott scored a game-high 30 points and was named MVP of the final. Darcy Hammond scored 16 for Neelin while Warren Jacobson added 14 and Jordan Nostedt chipped in 11.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Landon Wilson scored a goal and set up another as the Vincent Massey Vikings downed the Souris/Reston Sabres 5-1 in Westman High School Hockey League action. Carson Ransom, Dexter Dalgleish, Cole Stanley and Keesin Richard also scored.
