• 60 YEARS AGO — Jules Denloo and his rink of Dan Hyrich, Harvey Gray and Henry Nicholson captured the Grand Challenge event in the annual men’s bonspiel in Belmont, defeating Dick Myers and his foursome of Larry Chambers, Tommy Deedman and Donald McGill.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Ken Forsythe notched a pair of goals to pace Pierson Bruins to a 6-3 victory over Melita Bisons in SouthWest Hockey League action.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Gerald Speers and his Brandon Club rink of Greg Rabe, Pat Larkin and Jim Bellows won the Trade Fair Exchange Event at the Brandon Men’s Bonspiel with a 7-3 win over Deloraine’s Duane Edwards.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Daryl Stockham led the Brandon Wheat Kings back into first place in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League by scoring his 37th and 38th goals of the season to spark the Wheat Kings to a 7-5 triumph over the Southwest Cougars.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Charlie King scored three goals and added an assist to lead the Virden Oil Kings past the Blanshard Bobcats 10-5 in a NorthCentral Hockey League game. Randy Woywada scored twice for the Bobcats.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Desirae Peiffer’s powerhouse performance carried Crocus Plains to a 61-42 triumph over Vincent Massey in Brandon High School Basketball League varsity girls’ action. Shanelle Haliuk added 12 points and nine rebounds for the host Plainsmen.
