60 YEARS AGO — More than 350 athletes participated in the first annual southwestern Manitoba indoor track meet at the Recreation Hall at CJATC. Only one provincial record fell as 15-year-old Jim McKenzie of Earl Oxford shattered the junior high jump mark by three inches with his mighty 5-foot-9 leap.

50 YEARS AGOBrian Moffatt with third Keith Poole, second Dave Phillips and lead Gene Cory, won the Zone 9 Manitoba Consols defeating Bob Fines and his rink of Ron Anderson, Lyle Anderson and Barry Hooke 9-2 in seven ends.

40 YEARS AGO Ken Harvey was perfect in net as Virden Howlers blanked Shilo 3-0 in a Shilo and District Broomball League game. Steve Densmore, Doug Morgan and Darryl Twigg had the other goals.

30 YEARS AGONorm Hann poured in 57 points to lead the Dog Pound to a 117-80 victory over Ultimate Flight in a Brandon Senior Men’s Basketball League game. Cory Bird had 22 points to lead Ultimate Flight.

20 YEARS AGO Derek Tibbatts fired four goals to lead the Foxwarren Falcons to an 11- 6 triumph over the Oak Lake Icemen in North Central Hockey League action.

10 YEARS AGOTanner Pugh scored the game-winner 3:59 into the third period as the Killarney/Wawanesa Raiders skated to a 5-3 victory over the Virden Golden Bears in Westman High School Hockey League action.
