Maden Simard had a goal and two assists as the Brandon Wheat Kings earned a 4-2 victory over the seventh-place Interlake Lightning (5-17-5-0) in their sole weekend action in the U17 AAA Winnipeg Hockey League.

On Friday at Warren’s South Interlake Rec Centre, Nolan Peterson, Ty Aldcroft and Benjamin Sveistrup also scored for Brandon (25-2-2-0), which trailed 1-0 in the first period.

Urijah Moosetail was called on to make just 15 saves, while first-place Brandon fired 52 shots at Braedan Cormack.

The U17s are in the final stretch of their season, with six regular season games remaining. They’re in action at J&G Homes Arena on the weekend, hosting the Winnipeg Thrashers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and the Winnipeg Bruins on Sunday at 2 p.m.
