IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Glen Fowler and his rink of Marcel Chacun, Bruce Sawyer and Guy Longman of the host club put together an eight-win, one-loss record en route to capturing the main Alexander Hotel event and grand aggregate title in the annual Virden Men’s Bonspiel.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Friendship Centre was no match for Ponderosa in Manitoba Broomball Association play, falling by an 8-0 score. Ron Young and Brian Kilborn paced Ponderosa with two goals each.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Pam Flick and Carlye Gabor scored six points each to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to a 20-19 win over the Harrison Hawks in a Brandon Junior High Basketball League game. Lisa Patterson led Harrison with 10 points.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Six new members were selected to be inducted into the Brandon University Bobcats Hockey Hall of Fame: Andy Murray, Tim Lenardon, Tim Morrison, Larry Budzinski, Angus Juckes and Frank McKinnon.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Bobcats can keep their win against the Alberta Golden Bears. An appeal by the University of Alberta men’s basketball team to overturn Brandon’s 77-76 victory on Sunday afternoon, was unanimously denied by a three-person committee struck by the Canada West Conference earlier in the week.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Emma Church had 10 points as the Neelin Spartans defeated the host Crocus Plainsmen in junior varsity girls action in the Brandon High School Basketball League.
