• 60 YEARS AGO — Elkhorn’s Bill Tough skipped his rink of Cecil Carruthers, Ralph Pelequin and Ivan Simpson to the grand aggregate award in the Elkhorn men’s bonspiel.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Leon Cluff established his ownership of the title of the best male 10-pin bowler on the scratch side in Brandon following closing games in the 24- game total pinfall event held at the Thunderbird Lanes.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Janet Lumsden’s goal in the third period of overtime gave Soup Kettle Stray Cats a 1-0 victory over Fred’s Dry Cleaners in a marathon Brandon Women’s Broomball League game. The win was the first of two for the Stray Cats, who went on to shut out Spectrum Blazers 3-0. While Margaret Makowski was providing flawless netminding, the Stray Cats were getting goals from Lumsden, Shelly Hartel and Barb Bell.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Bobcats men’s basketball team has sewn up top spot in the Canada West conference after a 71-67 win over the Calgary Dinos Friday night. The Bobcats handed the Dinos their first home loss of the university season and in so doing ensured that should they make the conference final four, they will go in as the No.1 seed.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jackson Popple scored back-to-back goals, including the game-winner, as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Central Plains Capitals 5-2 in a Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League game.
