• 60 YEARS AGO — Central Auto Body battled their way into the Winter Carnival Schmice night broomball tournament with a 4-0 win over Bank of Commerce. Bill Houston scored two goals for Central.
• 50 YEARS AGO — A strong second-half surge carried Neelin Spartans to a 54-43 victory over Vincent Massey Vikings in the final varsity boys game of the Brandon High School Basketball League’s regular season. John McKay had 17 points for the winners while Kevin Kelleher had 13.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Juvenile Wheat Kings scored three goals in the final five minutes of play to defeat Regina Packers 7-5 in the championship final of the Fred Heeney hockey tournament. Murray Foster and Ron Hanson had two goals each for the winners.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Allyson Menzies and Sarah Lopes both scored a team-high 24 points as the Neelin Spartans drew first blood in the Westman High School Basketball League varsity girls final Thursday with an 85-53 win over the Crocus Plainsmen at Neelin.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Westman Place will host the last Quenneville family reunion of the Western Hockey League’s regular season tonight. Brandon Wheat Kings forwards Peter and John Quenneville will welcome their younger brother David, a rookie defenceman with the Medicine Hat Tigers.
