The Brandon Wheat Kings earned a pair of awards from the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League on the weekend.

Blue-liner Aiden Laing was the top defender while Travis Mealy was named coach of the year. Jonah Lemoine made the first all-star team, and Laing and Southwest Cougars forward Connor Hoemsen were named to the second all-star team.

The league’s most valuable player is Winnipeg Wild goalie Justin Perreault, and the rookie of the year is the Wild’s Ludovic Perreault.
