• 60 YEARS AGO — Rivers cruised into the MAHA provincial Bantam BB final at Rivers as they swept a doubleheader from Thompson with a 9-0 and 17-6 win. Bill MacKeen scored five goals and Tony Thomas added four in the first game. MacKeen was also the big gun in the second game with another five while Charlie Rogers had a trio.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Morley Rome skipped his Nesbitt rink to top spot in the first event of the annual Margaret bonspiel. Rome defeated Larry Rankin of Brandon in the final. Ken Shackel of Boissevain and Donald Grieve of Minto finished third and fourth respectively.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Chris Hickes hooped 27 points to help the Killarney Raiders defeat the Virden Golden Bears 59-49 and sweep the Zone 9 best-of-three provincial basketball qualifier. Dale Stamper added 12 points for the winners.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Karrie Gerow was a gold medallist on her home ice at the Manitoba Star Skate competition on the weekend. The Souris Figure Skating Club member placed first in the junior silver ladies’ division, finishing ahead of Janelle Klassen of Winkler.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Calen Addison scored two goals and set up another as the Brandon Wheat Kings closed out their Winnipeg AAA Bantam Hockey League Division 1 home schedule with a 5-4 win over the Central Plains Capitals.
