Brandon connections abound at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association men’s basketball championship at Vanier College in Montreal.

Jeremy Wielenga and his Keyano Huskies looked to defend the CCAA national title but came up short in their opener Wednesday afternoon.

The Huskies lost 86-55 to College Jean-De-Brebeuf Dynamiques.

Keyano managed to score only nine points in the second quarter to trail 46-25 at the half, shooting just 32.3 per cent from the floor.

Former Brandon University Bobcat Mikee Dosado and his Vanier Cheetahs opened the tournament against the Capilano Blues. That game was in progress at press time.

Meanwhile, Brandonite Matt DeGagne was one of three on the referee crew for the tournament’s first game between the UNBSJ Seawolves and Durham Lords.
