• 60 YEARS AGO — Brian Phillips hit the bucket from centre court with less than 10 seconds remaining to give Lawson’s Lords a 69-68 triumph over Brandon Rebels in senior men’s basketball action.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Bantam Shayne Peters and junior Robert Rae qualified for the national junior 10-pin bowling championships at a weekend tournament in Winnipeg.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Soup Kettle Straycats of Brandon won the women’s provincial B broomball championship in Thompson by defeating Wabowden Amazons 1-0 in the title game on Stacy Corrigan’s goal. Goaltender Shelley Hartel was named to the all-star team along with winger Margaret Makowski and Donna Cullen on defence.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon Lockerby scored three goals to lead the Rivers/Elton Rage to a 7-3 victory over the Carman Cougars in opening-day action at the provincial high school A/AA hockey championship.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats believe they have found their setter of the future. Reece Dixon, a 6-foot-1 Edmonton product, has committed to join the Bobcats men’s volleyball team next season.
