The Brandon Wheat Kings are down a game in their best-of-seven U17 AAA Winnipeg Hockey League final against the Winnipeg Bruins.
In a battle of the league’s two best teams, Kendrick Breemersch, Matthew Dupuis and Gavyn Yon scored for the second-place Wheat Kings (30-3-0-0-2) but the first-place Bruins (32-0-0-0-3) earned a 4-3 victory at Southdale Community Centre on Sunday.
Game 2 is at J&G Homes Arena on Tuesday at 6 p.m., Game 3 is at Southdale Community Centre on Thursday at 6:15 p.m., and Game 4 is at J&G Homes Arena on Saturday at 3 p.m.
If needed, Game 5 is at Southdale Community Centre on Sunday at 6:15 p.m., Game 6 is at J&G Homes Arena on Tuesday at 6 p.m., and a deciding Game 7 would be at Southdale Community Centre on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.
The Wheat Kings closed out their semifinal series against the sixth-place Pembina Valley (12-21-2-0) at Morden’s Access Events Centre on Tuesday with a 5-2 victory after Owen Stanley scored twice and Maden Simard, Breemersch and Benjamin Sveistrup also sniped.
Brandon’s Urijah Moosetail made 22 saves, with Pembina Valley’s Koen Bleznuk stopping 50 shots.
