• 60 YEARS AGO — Bud Andrews and his rink of Leo Robson, Darryl Andrews and Hazel Robson captured the grand aggregate award in the annual mixed bonspiel at Douglas.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Larry Taylor and his Brandon Curling Club rink of third Shirley Bray, second Don Pottinger and lead Mary Adams rebounded yesterday from an opening round loss to defeat Prince Edward Island 7-1 at the Canadian mixed curling championships in Kitchener.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon Eagles’ Peter Mitchell, 9, picked up four gold medals and vaulted into second in the cadet men’s event at the Manitoba Open Gymnastics championships.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Tyson Ramsey scored two goals in the Souris Elks’ seven-goal second period explosion of a 12-2 win over the Pierson Bruins in the first game of the SouthWest Hockey League final.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Brandonites Alexandra Murray and Isabela Onyshko are nominees for Sport Manitoba’s female junior athlete of the year award. Murray is up for the award based on her prowess on the racquetball court, while Onyshko’s gymnastics record earned her a nomination.
