TOP PERFORMERS
The league also named its performers of the month for March on Tuesday.
The player of the month was 17-year-old Medicine Hat forward Gavin McKenna of Whitehorse, Yukon, who led the March scoring race with 10 goals, 22 assists and 32 points in seven games. He also led the league with nine points after the first weekend of the playoffs.
It was his third such award after he also won in September/October and January. The other winners were WHL scoring leader Andrew Cristall of the Kelowna Rockets (he is now with Spokane) in November, Oliver Tulk of Calgary in December and Berkly Catton of Spokane in February.
The goaltender of the month is 20-year-old Medicine Hat netminder Harrison Meneghin of South Surrey, B.C., who also won the award in January. Meneghin won all eight of his starts in March while posting a 1.87 goals-against average and .931 save percentage and two shutouts.
Sadly, his father Derek died unexpectedly on March 23 and while he returned home, he came back to Medicine Hat for Game 1 against the Swift Current Broncos and posted a 21-save 4-0 shutout. He was then saluted by Tigers fans with a standing ovation at Co-op Place.
The others goalies of the month were Jesse Sanche of Everett in September/October, Evan Gardner of the Saskatoon Blades in November, Raiden LeGall of Everett in December and Daniel Hauser of Calgary in February.
