IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Souris Elks hammered Fort Alexander 9-2 to capture the Eddie Armstrong trophy. Jerry Page scored three goals for the winners while playing coach Barry Moffatt and Harvey McFadden both tallied twice. Dean Couvier and Russ Kufflick chipped in with singles.

• 50 YEARS AGO — YMCA B defeated the Trojans 40-37 in Brandon Senior Men’s Basketball action. Peter Cowan and Mike Turabian led YMCA with 10 points each while Hans Roth had 16 for the Trojans.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Michelle Dutchyshen won the bantam girls’ title at the 15th annual Canadian Youth Bowling Council 10-pin Championships in Richmond Hill, Ont.

• 20 YEARS AGO — At the national Youth Challenge 5-pin bowling championship in Hamilton, Krista Ready and Shandi Karasz — who both bowl in the YBC program at Recreation Lanes — helped Manitoba to a sixth-place finish.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Nolan Patrick gave the Brandon Wheat Kings another reason for optimism as they won their first round playoff series over the Edmonton Oil Kings. After being held scoreless in the first three games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal, the 16-year-old scored the winning goal in Brandon’s 3-2 victory over the Oil Kings.
