• 50 YEARS AGO — Jack Brockest, who officially takes over as the general manager of the Brandon Wheat Kings announced that former NHL great Babe Pratt will be a head table guest at the Sportsman’s Dinner.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Neelin Spartans and Crocus Plains Seniors played to a 2-2 draw in a Brandon High School Soccer League game. Kim Owens scored both Neelin goals, while Sandy Epp and Leanne Cale replied for Crocus.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Western Hockey League whittled its refereeing crew to a select quartet for the league final. Tom Kowal, Kevin Muench, Mike Hasenfratz and Brad Davis were selected for the task.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Jen Dixon was one of Manitoba’s 36 athletes to compete in the Canadian Junior Racquetball Championships in Winnipeg, claiming a silver medal in the 12-and-under age group.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jessi Coulter and Nimrit Bath combined for the shutout as the visiting Vincent Massey Vikings beat the Crocus Plainsmen 2-0 in Brandon High School Soccer League girls’ play. Allison Cruse and Courtney Wallis each scored for Massey.
