60 YEARS AGOHowie Gibbs posted a perfect score of 100 straight to capture the open “A” class singles at the annual spring warm up shoot at the Brandon Gun Club. Bruce Kent of Brandon was second and Seymour Young of Waskada placed third.

50 YEARS AGONelson Burrell, a 6’6” forward who hails from Glendive, Mont., is in Brandon this weekend attending the Brandon University Bobcat basketball tryout camp.

40 YEARS AGO — Wheat City Mixed League dominated the Champion of Champions Tournament at Thunderbird Lanes. Rick Norberg-Snap-On Tools took the division, while Brandon Club swept the consolation event. Barb and Jeff Will, Terri Miller, Bruce MacKay and Howie Maslove made up the A Team, while Mary Lyn Carroll, Tony and Coleen Wall, Alan Moffatt and Kay Maier bowled in the consolation.

20 YEARS AGO — Playing before a standing-room-only crowd of 3,366 at the Art Hauser Centre, the Prince Albert Raiders beat Brandon 3-2 on ex-Wheat King Caine Pearpoint’s goal 7:03 into overtime Sunday night in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final to force a seventh and deciding game

10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Calgary Hitmen 8-2 to book a spot in the Western Hockey League Championship, ending the series with a 4-1 victory.
