60 YEARS AGO — Don Slonder shattered 96 of 100 targets at the Rock Lake Gun Club to capture the A class singles event at the annual fall Labor Day shoot.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Jeff Gramiak pitched a four-hitter and clouted a home run in leading Wheat City Concrete to a 20-15 win over UCT in an Brandon Minor Baseball Association East End Peewee game.

• 40 YEARS AGO — The Clanwilliam Greys put together a 14-hit attack and thumped Keystone Motor Inn 13-1 in the deciding game of the Brandon Commercial Fastball League’s North Division final. Brian Smith drove in six runs for Clanwilliam with a three-run home run and a pair of singles, while Jim Richards singed twice and doubled. Jim Krutkewich slapped two doubles.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Bryan Letain won the Sandhills men’s open golf tournament at Carberry with a six-over-par 78 to beat Keith Gessner and Rick Robertson by four strokes.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Sixty-two prospects have been whittled down to 28 survivors of Brandon Wheat Kings training camp 2005. The Wheat Kings have reduced their preseason roster to three goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 15 forwards — including 18 veteran players and 10 rookies — following the club’s annual camp-ending intrasquad game at the Keystone Centre.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Veteran defenceman Ryan Pilon has left the Brandon Wheat Kings, telling the team that he has lost the desire to play hockey. The product of Duck Lake, Sask., who turns 19 next month, first told Wheat Kings head coach and general manager Kelly McCrimmon that his commitment was wavering on Wednesday. On Friday, he officially left.
