60 YEARS AGO — Neil McLean whiffed 11 batters in registering a one-hitter as Elks rolled to a 10-1 victory over Legion in the first game of the Brandon Minor Baseball Association’s pony division playoffs. Tim Down hit a home run and two singles for Elks.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Gordie Hahn, former Wheat Kings trainer, left Brandon this morning for Victoria, where he will take up duties as trainer of the Western Canada Hockey League’s Cougars.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Thunderbird Sails and the German Army battled to a 2-2 draw in a Brandon Senior Soccer League game. Erich Timm and Rick Zetariuk scored for the Sails, while Andreas Hartmann and Wolfgang Makurath replied for the Germans.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Jenna Kerbis is not on Canada’s national gymnas- tics team yet but the 17-year-old Brandonite is knocking on the door. The Crocus Plains graduate will head to Mississauga, Ont., to try out for a spot on Canada’s entry into October’s Senior Pan-Am Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
