• 60 YEARS AGO — Glen Peterson of Virden toured the nine-hole golf course at Elkhorn in 107 strokes over 27 holes to win the annual Elkhorn men’s golf tournament.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Pizza Place of Brandon doubled up on the Souris Blues 10-5 to wrap up the Brandon and District Ladies’ Fastball League A division title. Ev Oliver got the pitching win, while teammates Lois Johnston and Lorna Fairbairn managed two singles and a triple each. Losing pitcher Karen Anderson stroked two singles.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Thunderbird Sails and Mazer’s Machines played to a 1-1 tie in Brandon Senior Soccer League action. Clyde Brawn scored Thunderbird’s goal, while Danny Perkins replied for Mazer’s.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Stefan Cherneski scored twice to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 6-2 Western Hockey League pre-season victory over the Regina Pats.
• 20 YEARS AGO — It took 14 months, but the Brandon Barbarians senior men’s rugby team finally had its 19-game winning streak snapped. The Barbarians fell 29-21 to the Winnipeg Saracens in Rugby Manitoba Division 1 action, Brandon’s first loss since July of 2004, with the bulk of those victories coming in Division 2 matches.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Corbin Chuhai threw a 20- yard touchdown pass to Cody Pope and ran for an eight-yard major as the Parkwest Outlaws defeated the host Virden Golden Bears 17-6 in the Tundra Bowl high school football game.
