• 60 YEARS AGO — John Clark, 17-year-old son of well-known Brandon golfer Fraser Clark, finished with a six-over par 76 to capture the western Manitoba junior golf crown at the Brandon Golf and Country Club.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The McAuley Blazers downed the Hamiota Red Sox 6-1 to win the Manitoba Senior Baseball League crown. Brian Purcha had three singles for McAuley, while Terry Lynd had a double and single.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Shane Benson scored two tries, Cam Randall scored one and Colin Connerton added a convert as Brandon Barbarians downed North Side United 14-10 in Manitoba Rugby Union Division II action.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Phil Hall of Brandon won the 36-hole Westman Invitational golf tournament at Shilo with a 71 and 73 for an even-par total of 144 and a two-stroke victory over Brandon’s Dwight Kearns.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings toughened up their lineup, acquiring 20-year-old Luke Hewitt from the Tri-City Americans for a sixth-round draft pick in the 2006 bantam draft, conditional on Hewitt being on the Wheat Kings roster following the league’s Oct. 13 deadline to declare three overagers. Hewitt joins Brandon blueliner Riley Day as the Wheat Kings’ two 20-year-olds.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Virden Oil Capitals have acquired defenceman Royce Rossignol, 19, from the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s Amherst Ramblers for future considerations.
