• 60 YEARS AGO — Bill Huston proved to be the key figure for 7Up as the club whipped Shilo 14-7 in the fourth game of the Brandon and District Commercial Fastball League final and won their second straight championship. Huston hammered four hits, including a home run.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Ken Hoy fired a five-over-par 65 to edge Dwight Kearns by two strokes for the men’s title at the North Hill Motel’s annual fall golf tournament. Meanwhile, Peggy Clark recorded a 73 to win the women’s premier flight by five strokes over second Mona Sumida.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Virden Golden Bears defeated the Dauphin Clippers 21-18 in high school football action as Joey Senff scored a pair of touchdowns and Dale Lewis added one.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Jared Jacobson shot a two-over-par 73 to lead the Vincent Massey Vikings to an easy victory in the Zone 15 high school boys’ golf championship at Shilo.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Bowen Neuhofer was a silver medallist Sunday in the Brandon Road Race. Neuhofer just missed out on the Category 4 title in the last event of the Manitoba Road Race Series, finishing in a pack of three just behind Paul Benson and ahead of bronze medallist Jason Doverspike.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jeremy Roe caught four passes for 80 yards and three touchdowns to lead the host Neepawa Tigers to a 30-27 win over the Virden Golden Bears in the Rural Manitoba Football League.
