• 60 YEARS AGO — Moonchild, a long-legged grey Thoroughbred owned by Parkway Stables and ridden by Eileen Blake, was an easy first-place winner at the eighth annual fall show of the Brandon Light Horse Stables.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Bob Hackenschmidt of Brandon captured championship flight honours at the recent Sandy Lake men’s open golf tournament.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Keystone Glass placed three players, Murray McMillan, Brent Pilling and Kevin Groff, on the Brandon Commercial Men’s Fastball League all-star team. Rounding out the team were: Don Pangman, Jim Fleury, Rodney Tacan, Brian Smith, Jim Richards and Garry Kruger.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Max Bratzke scored twice to spark the German Royals to a 3-0 victory over Griff’s Arsenal in men’s semifinal action at the Brandon Senior Soccer League tournament. Lars Buch also scored for the Royals.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Derek LeBlanc got a taste of the bright lights, big city for longer than he expected. The 19-year-old Brandon Wheat Kings left-winger returned over the weekend after a one-week free-agent tryout turned into a two-week stint and a trip to main training camp with the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Westman Wolverines fell 36-15 to the host Transcona Nationals in their Manitoba Major Junior Football League game and are now in a must-win situation to make the playoffs.
