Kiyanna Arevalo scored the game’s only goal as the Assiniboine College Cougars earned their first victory of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference women’s soccer season on Sunday.
The Cougars (1-5-0) blanked the St. Boniface Les Rouges 1-0 in Winnipeg.
On Saturday, Arevalo found the net but the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers scored in added time to beat the Cougars 2-1.
The Brandon University Bobcats (5-0-0) blanked the Blazers 6-0 on Sunday as Brogan Henry and Keashae Masters each scored twice, with Deborah Meron and Laure Dizengremel adding singles.
On the men’s side, AC (0-6-0) fell 8-0 to CMU on Saturday, then lost 1-0 to USB.
The Bobcat men (4-1-0) handed the Blazers their first loss of the season as Camilo Rodriguez and Kevin Garcia scored second-half goals in a 2-0 home triumph.
In post-secondary rugby action, BU beat the defending Prairie University Women’s Rugby Club champion Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Trojans 32-7 on Friday.
Megan Thompson scored a try and kicked three converts and two penalties, with Brooke Miner touching the ball down twice and Raegan Ricard adding a try.
On Sunday, BU beat Mount Royal University 39-10 as Breanna Sakal, Kateri Mills, Thompson, Ricard and Emily Van Mol scored tries.
The Bobcats return to action at home against the University of Saskatchewan on Oct. 4.
