• 60 YEARS AGO — Gerry Holmstrom hurled a one-hitter and Legion coasted to a 9-4 triumph over Elks in Brandon Colt baseball playoffs. Neil McLean, who allowed seven hits, was charged with the loss.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Norm McManus of Kenton teamed up with Brandon’s Dave Clelland to top the inaugural best-ball scramble tournament at the Brandon Golf and Country Club. McManus- Clelland shot 64 Saturday and 66 on Sunday.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Club whipped Victoria Inn Titans 3-0 in a semifinal round of the Wally Newton Cup soccer tourney. United’s goals came from Bruce Clark, Callum Scott and Randy McGee. Dave Bebbington registered the shutout.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Rookie Daryl Stockham scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Prince Albert Raiders 4-2 in the WHL pre-season in Yorkton, Sask.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Dave Scinocca of Brandon shot a one-over-par 72 to move into a tie for 21st spot at the Canadian PGA Assistants Championship in Jackson’s Point, Ont. Scinocca has a two-round total of four-over 146.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings have gotten back a key veteran after the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild returned forward Reid Duke.
