IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Neelin captured the 1965-66 Brandon High School Boys Soccer League championship by defeating Harrison Hawks 1-0. Don Campbell kicked the only goal of the game.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Hope Linski, bowling in the Thunderbird Ladies Senior League, took both singles and threes with a 241 single and 576 triple. Leon Cluff edged Wilf Goodburn 255-253 for the high single of the week and also rolled the men’s high three for the week with a 652.

• 40 YEARS AGO — The Souris Sabres advanced to the Singe A high school football championship by defeating Boissevain Broncos 57-26. Running back Gary Pomeroy accounted for 208 yards offence, 128 along the ground, and two touchdowns to pace the Sabres. Don McLeod had three majors for the winners.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Peter Schaefer scored twice as the Brandon Wheat Kings downed the Prince George Cougars 5-0 in the WHL. Mike Leclerc, Chris Dingman and Justin Kurtz also scored.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Neepawa Titans have picked up 20-year-old forward Whitney Garey from the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Bonnyville Pontiacs. The deal for the native of Anchorage, Alaska, completes future considerations from a previous trade.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Devon Cooper had seven kills, a block and four aces to lead the host Crocus Plainsmen to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-13) sweep over the Neelin Spartans in a Westman High School Volleyball League varsity boys’ match.
