IN LOCAL HISTORY

60 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Krugers defeated Dauphin 12-6 in high school football action. Joe Young and Harvey Julseth got the Brandon touchdowns while Frank Wynes netted the only Dauphin major of the game.

50 YEARS AGO David Price scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Whites to an 89-85 victory over the Blues in the Brandon University men’s basketball intrasquad game. Ryan Grey and Nelson Burrell chipped in with 18 points apiece.

40 YEARS AGO — The Souris Sabres advanced to the A high school football championship with a 57-26 win over the Boissevain Broncos. Running back Gary Pomeroy accounted for 208 yards offence— 128 along the ground — and two touchdowns for Souris. Don McLeod had three majors for the winners.

30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Swift Current Broncos 9-2 with Cory Cyrenne scoring three times. Kelly Smart, Peter Schaefer, Chris Dingman, Gerhard Unterluggauer, Wade Redden and Bobby Brown all had singles.

20 YEARS AGO — Welcome to the CIS, Brandon Bobcats. Feel free to chalk up a ‘W’ on your way in. The BU men’s volleyball team opened its first-ever season of Canadian university play Friday by surviving a five-set marathon with the Regina Cougars to win 3-2 (21-25, 25- 21, 25-23, 24-26, 15-13).

10 YEARS AGO Tyler Rowan took home a pair of honours as he was named the Winnipeg High School Football League’s Kas Vidruk (AA) Division offensive and special teams player of the week. The Vincent Massey Vikings running back rushed 19 times for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns as they handed the visiting River East Kodiaks their first loss of the season in a 23-16 decision.
