The Neelin Spartans finished second at Lord Selkirk’s varsity boys’ volleyball tournament on Saturday.
The third-ranked team in AAA fell 2-0 (25-12, 25-23) to AAAA’s No. 3-ranked Steinbach Sabres in the final.
The Spartans swept the host Royals 2-0 (25-19, 25-10) in the semifinals after beating the No. 4-ranked Gabrielle-Roy Les Roys in the third set in the quarters.
This week, Neelin is hosting the Spartan Dig varsity boys and girls tournament on Friday and Saturday at myriad gymnasiums across the city.
At the St. Vital Invitational, the Vincent Massey Vikings finished in third place with a 3-0 sweep of the St. Mary’s Flames.
Zoe Redekop recorded 15 kills, while Hannah McGregor had 13 kills and five aces and Reece Cowan recorded 24 digs.
Redekop was named a tournament all-star.
The Vikings lost to the Mennonite Brethren Hawks in the semifinals in five sets, as Ashley Sullivan recorded 10 kills.
The Vikings are off to the Pembina Trails tournament in Winnipeg next weekend.
The Massey boys finished fifth at the River City Classic in Winnipeg, beating Jeanne-Sauve 3-0 in the fifth-place match after losing 2-0 to the River East Kodiaks in the quarterfinals.
They play the St. Vital Invitational next weekend.
