60 YEARS AGO — A goal by Erv Ziemer helped the Brandon Wheat Kings maintain their unbeaten status at the Wheat City Arena as they edged the Estevan Bruins 4-3.

50 YEARS AGO — The Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team held an intrasquad game with White beating Blue 78-75. Forward Ryan Gray scored 21 points for the Whites while David Price checked in with 17 and Brian Pallister managed 12.

40 YEARS AGO — Quarterback Darren Bradbury threw for two touchdowns and scored another as the Virden Golden Bears beat the Dauphin Clippers 28-26 to win the Rural Manitoba High School Football AA championship.

30 YEARS AGO Keith Vassell amassed 29 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to spark the Brandon University Bobcats to a 105-85 triumph over the SAIT Trojans in the Bobcats’ Homecoming Classic men’s basketball tournament.

20 YEARS AGO — The Crocus Plainsmen are off to a 2-0 start at the Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Hawks varsity boys high school volleyball tournament. Darcy Geseron had 14 kills, while Brendon Lyons added 10 to help Crocus sweep Niverville 25-15, 25-16 and Westgate 25-17, 25-14.

10 YEARS AGO — The winning isn’t over for the Baldur Regals just yet. Baseball Manitoba named the Western Canada champs their high performance senior team of the year. Pitcher Anthony Friesen of Pilot Mound, who the Regals picked up for westerns, was named the senior AA player of the year. Virden’s Matt Gunning, who played with the Manitoba Senior Baseball League champion Oak River Dodgers, was named the top senior AAA player for the second year in a row.
