BRANDON WHEAT KINGS

The third-place Wheat Kings (9-2-0-1) saw action just once, hosting the 11th-place Interlake Lightning (2-10-1-0) in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League over the weekend.

On Friday, Kevin Knee, Hudson Champagne, Kale Jones and Matthew Dupuis each scored twice and Jaxson Brick added a single in a 9-2 Wheat Kings rout.

Cooper Dryden made 24 saves for Brandon, with Seth Schaeffer and Grayson Mcdonald blocking 36 shots for Interlake.

The Wheat Kings have four games this week, hosting Parkland on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Wild on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and the Southwest Cougars on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and then visiting the Cougars at Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m.

SOUTHWEST COUGARS

The fourth-place Cougars (8-3-1-1) visited the Parkland Rangers and then hosted the 10th-place Central Plains Capitals (3-8-1-2).

On Saturday at Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex, Liam Magwood scored twice and Aubrey Cuvelier, Kole Beard, Taylor Lockhart, Cole Lobreau and Jamie Williamson added singles in a 7-2 Cougars victory over the Capitals.

Brady Shields made 20 saves for Southwest, with Karsen Dyck blocking 28 shots for Central Plains.

On Friday at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place, Landyn Garton scored twice and Dayson Martin sniped once as the Rangers took a 3-0 lead, and then Southwest’s Lobreau, Eric Berger and Lockhart tied it.

In the third period, Parkland regained the lead on goals by Brayden Budolowski and Ryzlie Nepinak, and while Coleton Koop made it a 5-4 game, the Rangers hung on for the win.

Nate Brown made 16 saves for Southwest, with Carter Sigurdson blocking 28 shots for Parkland.

The Cougars have the home-and-home with Brandon this week.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The eighth-place Chiefs (7-6-0-0) stayed out on the road, meeting the second-place Winnipeg Wild (11-1-1-1) and Interlake.

On Sunday at Teulon-Rockwood Arena, Winston Lepp scored 91 seconds into overtime as the Chiefs earned a 3-2 victory. Grady McNish had Yellowhead’s two other goals.

Landon McGregor made 26 saves for Yellowhead, with Grayson Mcdonald blocking 24 shots for Interlake.

On Saturday at Hockey For All Centre, Cody Farrell had three goals and two assists as the Wild handed the Chiefs a 10-0 loss.

Sawyer Wallin made 35 saves for Yellowhead, with Chase Kettles stopping 18 shots for the shutout.

The Chiefs visit the Winnipeg Thrashers at Seven Oaks Community Centre on Friday at 7:45 p.m., and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

PARKLAND RANGERS

The fifth-place Rangers (7-2-3-0) had a three-game home stand, meeting Southwest on Friday and splitting a weekend doubleheader with the seventh-place Eastman Selects (7-5-0-0) at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place.

On Sunday, Seth Hooper had two goals and an assist as the Selects handed the Rangers a 7-1 loss.

Parkland’s lone goal by Dayson Martin came 15 seconds after Eastman had taken the lead early in the first period, but within five minutes the hosts were down 4-1.

Eddy Person and Carter Sigurdson made 21 saves for Parkland, with Zaiden McDonald Horvath blocking 11 shots for Eastman.

On Saturday, Owen Sigvaldason gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead and Brayden Budolowski replied 41 seconds after Eastman’s Crosby Mateychuk tied the game in the third period in a 2-1 Parkland win.

Sigurdson and Person combined to make 29 saves for Parkland, with McDonald Horvath blocking 12 shots for Eastman.

The Rangers have three road games this week, meeting Brandon at J&G Homes Arena on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., visiting the Winnipeg Wild at Hockey For All Centre on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Central Plains at Portage la Prairie’s Stride Place on Sunday at 4 p.m.

GIRLS

WESTMAN WILDCATS

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The Wildcats (4-5-0-2), who are tied for third with the Central Plains Capitals (5-5-0-0) and the seventh-place Chiefs (2-3-1-1) met each other in their only Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA as the league takes a break.

On Wednesday at Hartney Arena, Ivy Fry gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Jordan Woloski tied it for the Chiefs with 59 seconds left. In overtime, Brandonite Rachel Lyver scored 64 seconds into overtime for the 2-1 Westman victory.

Kylie Hack made 28 saves for Yellowhead, with Indigo Stone turning aside 22 shots for Westman.

The Chiefs don’t see league action again until the weekend of Nov. 14, with the Wildcats returning on Nov. 15
