40 YEARS AGO — Will Dooley scored three goals as Souris Elks thumped Deloraine Royals 10-3 in a SouthWest Hockey League game. Frank Lang and Ken Falloon added a pair for the Elks.

30 YEARS AGO — Mike McEwen skipped his Crocus Plains curling team to a 5-4 victory over Virden’s Cory Barkley in the championship game of the Vincent Massey high school bonspiel. McEwen’s foursome of third Geordie Hargreaves, second Paul Grambo and lead Matt Coutts went undefeated through six games over the weekend.

20 YEARS AGO — Sabrina Barnes and Amy Matthews both had 12 kills as the Bisons rallied late in the third set to seal up a 3-0 (25-13, 25-23, 26-24) win over the Bobcats in Canada West university women’s volleyball action.

10 YEARS AGO — Devan Schram had three goals and two assists as the Virden Oil Capitals pounded the Neepawa Natives 12-3 in Manitoba Junior Hockey League action.
