Leyton Gouldie of Brandon finished fifth in the men’s open division final at the winter national team selection event on Friday and Saturday in Brossard, Que.
Gouldie had a bye in the first round and then beat Jee Buller 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-4) before falling 3-2 (11-5, 11-13, 9-11, 13-11, 9-11) to Lee Connell in the quarterfinals.
He then beat Asher Pocsai 3-2 (8-11, 11-7, 11-3, 8-11, 11-9) and Nathan Jauvin 3-0 (13-11, 11-7, 11-9) to take fifth place.
Samuel Murray of St-Basile-Le-Grand, Que., won the men’s event, while Juliette Parent of Saint-Jacques, Que., took the women’s title.
It was the first selection event of the 2025-26 season, with spots on the line for the 2026 Pan American championships and world championships.
