BRANDON WHEAT KINGS

The Wheat Kings (13-6-0-1), who are tied for third place with the Winnipeg Bruins, swept the 13th-place Kenora Thistles (0-17-0-0) at Moncrief Construction Sports Centre in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League over the weekend.

On Sunday, Jaxson Brick, Hudson Champagne, Matthew Dupuis, Reid Nicol and Max Dawson scored in a 5-1 Brandon victory.

Cooper Dryden made 23 saves for Brandon, with Keanu Waasa’aanakwad turning aside 60 shots for Kenora.

On Saturday, Nicol scored with 12 seconds left in the first period and that opened the floodgates in a 7-1 Wheat Kings victory.

Crew Elder sniped twice and Owen Stanley, Kevin Knee, Easten Turko and Cole Dupuis added singles for Brandon, which led 5-0 after 40 minutes.

Urijah Moosetail made 25 saves for Brandon, with Tyson Ponton blocking 56 shots for Kenora.

The Wheat Kings next see action at J&G Homes Arena against the Pembina Valley Hawks on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and the Interlake Lightning on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

SOUTHWEST COUGARS

On Sunday at Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex, Nate Brown made 27 saves, Eric Berger scored twice and Jake Beaty and Cole Lobreau added singles in a 4-0 Southwest victory over Central Plains.

Karsen Dyck blocked 31 shots for Central Plains.

Brady Shields made 20 saves for Southwest, with Landon McGregor blocking 25 shots for Yellowhead.

The Winnipeg Wild visit the Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex on Wednesday at 8 p.m., and Thompson’s C.A. Nesbitt Arena for games against the Norman Northstars on Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

The only action for the ninth-place Chiefs (9-10-0-0) was against Southwest on Saturday.

The Chiefs visit the Rangers at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m., and then head to Morden’s Access Event Centre for games against the Pembina Valley Hawks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

PARKLAND RANGERS

The eighth-place Rangers (10-5-3-0) lost a heartbreaker to the sixth-place Pembina Valley Hawks (12-6-0-1).

On Saturday at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place, Noah Smigelsky opened the scoring but it took goals by Gavyn Yon and Alex Campbell to tie the game 3-3, and then Forrest Karlson to make it 4-4. On Saturday at Morden’s Access Event Centre, Nicole Rozdeba gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead, but Ella Victor’s power-play goal early in the third period proved to be the winner in a 2-1 Hawks victory.

WESTMAN WILDCATS

The third-place Wildcats (6-5-0-3) split a pair of games on the road against the fourth-place Central Plains Capitals (6-7-0-0) and the fifth-place Winnipeg Avros (5-5-2-0).
