BOYS
BRANDON WHEAT KINGS
The Wheat Kings (15-6-0-1), who are tied for third with the Winnipeg Bruins and Southwest, swept the sixth-place Pembina Valley Hawks (14-7-0-1) and the 11th-place Interlake Lightning (3-16-1-0) in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League last week at J&G Homes Arena.

On Saturday, Jaxson Brick scored on the power play with 92 seconds left in regulation as Brandon gutted out a 3-2 victory over Interlake.
Matthew Dupuis and Reid Nicol also scored for the Wheat Kings as they took a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Cooper Dryden made 21 saves for Brandon, with Seth Schaeffer blocking 39 shots for Interlake.
On Wednesday, Reid Nicol scored twice and Kevin Knee, Hunter Ethelston, Benjamin Sveistrup, Owen Stanley, Jaxson Brick and Cole Dupuis added singles as the Wheat Kings earned an 8-1 victory over Pembina Valley.
Easton Turko had four assists.
Urijah Moosetail made 24 saves for Brandon, with Koen Bleznuk blocking 36 shots for Pembina Valley.
The Wheat Kings have three games at J&G Homes Arena this week: They host the Parkland Rangers on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., and then the Eastman Selects are in on the weekend for games on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
SOUTHWEST COUGARS
The Cougars (14-6-1-2) met the first-place Winnipeg Wild (21-2-1-1) at home on Wednesday and then headed to Thompson’s C.A. Nesbitt Arena for games against the 12th-place Norman Northstars (1-23-0-1).
On Sunday, Taylor Lockhart tied the game shorthanded midway through the first period after the Northstars took the lead, and the floodgates opened after Gavin Anderson scored early in the second period, with his Southwest teammates Jaxsten Hansen-Young and Eric Berger both scoring twice and Jamie Williamson and Jack Polasek adding singles in an 8-2 Cougars victory.
Brady Shields made 23 saves for Southwest, with Westyn Hlady blocking 41 shots for Norman. The Cougars killed off eight of the 10 power plays they handed the Northstars.
On Saturday, Spencer Cullen scored twice and Lockhart, Polasek, Cole Lobreau, Aubrey Cuvelier and Jake Beaty added singles as Southwest earned a 7-3 victory. Nate Brown made 25 saves for Southwest, with Parker Clements and Hlady blocking 35 shots for Norman.
On Wednesday at Souris/Glenwood Memorial Complex, Shane Elder had the lone goal for Southwest as they dropped a 4-1 decision to Winnipeg that included a late empty netter. Shields made 25 saves for Southwest, with Chase Kettles blocking 23 shots for Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Thrashers visit Souris on the weekend for games on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS
The ninth-place Chiefs (10-12-0-0) beat the Parkland Rangers in overtime on Tuesday and then lost a pair of games against Pembina Valley at Morden’s Access Event Centre on the weekend.
On Sunday, Winston Lepp tied the game twice in the first 25 minutes for the Chiefs, but Ocean Fehr’s subsequent hat trick — two power-play goals and a shortie — lifted the Hawks to a 5-3 victory. Grady McNish had the other Chiefs goal.
Landon McGregor made 26 saves for Yellowhead, with Koen Bleznuk blocking 34 shots for Pembina Valley.
On Saturday, Lepp scored twice in the first period for the Chiefs but they fell 7-2 to the Hawks. Landon McGregor made 38 saves for Yellowhead, with Brody Peters blocking 34 shots for Pembina Valley.
On Tuesday at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place, Nolan Kozak scored his second goal of the game 2:17 into overtime to lift the Chiefs to a 4-3 victory.
Redden Richmond also had two goals for Yellowhead, while Dayson Martin had two goals and Brayden Budolowski added a single snipe for Parkland. McGregor made 38 saves to steal the win for Yellowhead, with Eddy Person blocking 12 shots for Parkland.
The Chiefs host the Rangers on Tuesday at 8 p.m., and then hit the highway to meet the Winnipeg Bruins at Southdale Community Centre on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., and Interlake at Lundar Arena on Sunday at 1 p.m.

PARKLAND RANGERS
After the overtime loss to the Chiefs, the eighth-place Rangers (11-5-4-0) also met the Lightning on Friday at Dauphin’s Credit Union Place.
Rangers forward Alex Campbell tied the game 1-1 with 18 seconds left in the first period, and then Noah Smigelsky, Miguel Van Den Driessche, Forrest Karlson and Dayson Martin scored in a 5-2 Parkland victory.
Carter Sigurdson made 25 saves for Parkland, with Grayson Mcdonald blocking 21 shots for Interlake.
After visiting Yellowhead on Tuesday and Brandon on Wednesday, the Rangers host the Hawks on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS
YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS
The Chiefs (6-5-1-1), who are tied for fourth place with the Winnipeg Avros and Central Plains Capitals, beat the seventh-place Pembina Valley Hawks (5-7-0-1) in the Manitoba Female Hockey League U18 AAA at Shoal Lake Communiplex on Saturday.
On Saturday, Emma Pollock, Jordan Woloski, Nicole Rozdeba and Haley Chipelski scored for the Chiefs as they posted a 4-2 win. Kylie Hack made 19 saves for Yellowhead, with Hannah Bannister turning aside 33 shots for Pembina Valley.
The Chiefs have a pair of games at home on the weekend, hosting the Winnipeg Avros on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and the Eastman Selects on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
WESTMAN WILDCATS
The third-place Wildcats (7-5-0-4) met the Eastman Selects (13-1-0-1), who are tied for first with the Winipeg Ice, on the road and Pembina Valley at home during a busy weekend.
On Sunday at Hartney Arena, Jaedyn Hoemsen, Ivy Perkin, Charlie Shearer and Chloe Astle scored as the Wildcats earned a 4-2 victory. Indigo Stone made 20 saves for Westman, with Madison Froese turning aside 27 shots for Pembina Valley.
On Saturday at Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre, Lucy Waldner tied the game for Westman with 50 seconds remaining with their net empty but Eastman earned the 6-5 shootout victory. Perkin had a pair of goals for the Wildcats, with Rachel Lyver and Ava Snyder also sniping.
Shannon Hees made 23 saves for Westman plus two in the four-round shootout, with Addison Tomes turning aside 22 shots through 65 minutes and three in the shootout.
Lyver had the lone shootout goal for Westman.
The Wildcats have the reverse schedule to the Chiefs, hosting the Avros on Friday and the Selects on Saturday.
