• 40 YEARS AGO — Terry Fowler Jr. scored a technical knockout over Minnesota’s Tony Bonsanti in the first round on their boxing match at a card in Grand Forks,while Terry Fowler Sr. was named the outstanding coach.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Travis Gamble’s Brandon team of third Grant Brown, second Travis Gouldie and lead Geordie Hargreaves won five straight games at the Zone 8 playdowns at the Brandon Curling Club to secure a spot at the Manitoba junior men’s curling championship.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Souris Valley Vipers earned a berth in the championship final of the Genesis Hospitality High School Hockey Tournament after downing the Vincent Massey Vikings 6-0.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Vincent Massey Vikings skated away with an 8-1 win over the Northlands Parkway Nighthawks in Pool 6 action, while the Crocus Plainsmen topped the Dryden Eagles 5-1 in Pool 1 in the 25th annual Victoria Inn high school hockey tournament.
