Owen Unrau scored 29 points to lead the Carberry Cougars to a 93-54 victory over the Helen Betty Osborne Huskies to open the Brandon Sun Spartan Invitational varsity boys’ basketball tournament on Thursday.

Brayden Roulette led the Huskies with 15 points in the Source for Sports Division contest.

In the other Pool H game, Parker McAulay scored 14 points as Sanford dropped Calvin Christian 57-48.

Josiah Giesbrecht paced the Eagles with eight points.

GLENBORO-BALDUR 80, NEELIN 39

In Pool E, Neelin’s Sam Rempel netted 26 points in a losing effort as Austin Dubyts put up 15 to lead the Glenboro-Baldur Panthers to an 80-39 triumph.

NEEPAWA 86, MAJOR PRATT 48

Juris Luna put up 12 points for the Tigers, with Daxton Sawaryn dropping 15 for the Trojans.

LINDEN CHRISTIAN 94, VIRDEN 53

In Pool F, Marco Byfield led the Wings to victory with 23 points, while Dixon Tough hooped 18 for the Golden Bears.

The Gimli Lakers and Dauphin Clippers were still in action at press time.

SOURIS 76, MINNEDOSA 67

In Pool G, Trey Penner paced the Sabres with 18 points, while Chancellors’ William Melvin led all scorers with 23.

SWAN VALLEY 90, PORTAGE 84

Lincoln Atkinson and Cam Knott tied for a game-high 24 points, with Atkinson’s Tigers coming out on top.

VINCENT MASSEY 103, NORTHLANDS PARKWAY 43

In Pool D of the Victoria Inn Division (Tier 1), Logan Van Santen led a balanced Vikings offence past the century mark with 14 points, while Greyson Gacutan recorded 13 for the Nighthawks.

The Miles Macdonell-Martin (Sask.) game ended after deadline.

In Pool A, Dane Blundell popped off for 36 points for the Kodiaks, with Aram Ghebrezghi racking up 17 points for the Zodiacs.

The Oak Park-Riffel (Sask.) contest ended after deadline.

DAKOTA 109, SELKIRK 44

In Pool B, Brady Penner and Jackson Campbell each had 16 points in the Lancers’ blowout win.

The Vincent Massey Trojans and Mennonite Brethren Hawks were still in action at deadline.

SISLER 86, CROCUS PLAINS 53

Raphael Capacio scored 10 points for the Spartans, with Adedamola Gbadebo posting 16 for the Plainsmen.

The Jeanne-Sauve Olympiens and Steinbach Sabres were still in action at press time.

The tournament continues today at Massey, Neelin, Crocus and the Healthy Living Centre, with the playoffs taking place on Saturday at all four sites.
