• 40 YEARS AGO — Hamiota defeated Neepawa 7-3 in a brawl-marred South West Hockey League game. The match was called with 11 seconds remaining in the third period following a brawl that involved all the players on the ice. Dallas Strachan and Ernie Heapy both scored twice for the winners.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Steven Janz poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the host Virden Golden Bears to a 72-59 win over the Vincent Massey Vikings in opening game of the varsity boys’ Westman High School Basketball League.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Brent Madill scored three goals and Trent Madill stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Minnedosa Bombers unloaded on the Kenton Cougars 12-0 in a NorthCentral Hockey League game. Mark Willis and Rob Memrick both added a pair of goals for the Bombers.

• 10 YEARS AGO — First-year Yellowhead Chiefs forward Mackenzie Belinski was recognized as the Chicken Chef/DEKALB Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League player of the week. Belinski scored three goals and added an assist in the Chiefs’ two games last week.
