• 60 YEARS AGO — Neepawa Cubs dumped College Caps 8-2 in hockey action at the Wheat City Arena. Don Martin, Cec Bolton and Norm Martin each fired two goals to lead Neepawa while Bob Allan and Albert Holmes added singles.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Vincent Massey rink skipped by Kris Dangerfield and including third Sharon Fowler, second Shelley Shavers and lead Michelle McDougall, won the Zone 5 junior girls’ title and advanced to provincials in Minnedosa.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Kathy Rinn and her Brandon Club foursome won the Zone 6 women’s curling title by downing Linda Van Daele’s Brandon rink 8-2 at Glenboro. Rinn with Noreen Sangster, Karyn Kowal and Audrey Graham in support, earned a berth in the Scott Tournament of Hearts.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Shane Baranyk fired a hat trick to pace the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 5-1 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League win over the Parkland Rangers.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Kaileigh Strath of Souris won her first two round-robin games at the Manitoba junior women’s curling championship at St. Vital Curling Club, with a blowout 10-1 victory over Laura Buchanan of Thompson, then a 10-9 slugfest with Cheryl Reed of Selkirk.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Zach Whitecloud of Brandon and Sioux Valley Dakota Nation has committed to join the Bemidji State University Beavers, although he won’t find out until April whether it will be for the 2016-17 season or the 2017-18 campaign.
