• 60 YEARS AGO — Vincent Massey swept a pair of exhibition basketball from Brandon Collegiate Massey defeated the BCI girls 28-6 and walloped the BCI boys 53-24. Jan Lowry and Judy Pochinko were the pace-setters for the win- ning girls club as they picked up 10 and eight points respectively. Lasby Lowes was the top point getter for Massey as he scored 18.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Lloyd Brown and Wayne Wilson made their SouthWest Hockey League debuts auspicious ones last night. Brown blocked 18 shots in goal and Wilson scored three times as Deloraine Royals blanked Neepawa Natives 9-0.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Two Brandon rinks emerged from the zone playdowns and earned berths in the Westman Winter Games. Mac Taylor and his Wheat City Curling Club downed the Cecil Brownlee foursome 7-3 to win the senior mixed berth. The junior mixed title went to Brad Wolfe and his Riverview rink following their 10-4 victory over Brent Sangster.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Stu Chalmers scored six goals to lead the Sioux Valley Dakotas to an 11-7 triumph over the Birtle Blazers in North Central Hockey League action. Rob Chalmers and Merlin Wombdiska added two goals apiece.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Corey Billaney fired three goals as the Boissevain Border Kings worked over the Pierson Bruins 8-2 in the SouthWest Hockey League.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Mitch Wheaton and Schael Higson practised with the Brandon Wheat Kings for the first time after they acquired them from the Saskatoon Blades for 18-year-old forward Braylon Shmyr, overage defenceman Colton Waltz and Saskatoon’s second-round pick in 2017.
