• 60 YEARS AGO — Bruce McTavish, Tom Ramsay and Jerry Cowan scored two goals each to highlight a 9-6 win for Cardale over Neepawa. Cardale’s other counters were added by Carl Dennison, Brian Argue and Barry Miller.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Lorna Gilmore posted the shutout and seven different players scored goals as the Brandon Blazing Hawks whipped East End 7-0 in a WestMan Girls Hockey League game.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Dwayne Thomson’s power-play goal, his second of the game, with less than three minutes remaining lifted Killarney Shamrocks into a 7-6 SouthWest Hockey League victory over Hamiota Huskies. The Shamrocks got three goals from Ken Opperman and singles from Rick Nichol and Kevin Bartley.
• 30 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Wheat Kings lost 5-4 to the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Western Hockey League play. Ryan Robson, Chris Dingman, Bobby Brown and Cory Cyrenne all sniped for the Wheat Kings.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Sanfred King notched two goals as the Brandon Wheat Kings knocked off the NorMan Northstars 5-1 in a Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League game at the Sportsplex.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Shayne MacGranachan gave up a steal of one in the fifth end and trailed Carter Watkins of Swan River 4-2. That’s when his fortunes changed. The Brandonite drew for two in the sixth and stole two in seven and three more in eight, winning 9-5 to finish Day 1 of the Canola Manitoba junior men’s provincial championship 2-0.
