• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Jeff Partrick won the junior men’s title at the Central Canadian division figure skating championships in Sudbury.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Paul Mandziuk’s hat trick powered the Boissevain Border Kings to a 10-5 triumph over the Pierson Bruins in South West Hockey League action. Wayne Clyne, Gord Ransom and Travis Laing each added a pair of goals while Darryl Albrecht scored once for the Border Kings.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Lois Fowler finally relinquished her grip on the Knickers Wheat City Curlettes league on Wednesday but it wasn’t without a fight. Joyce McDougall split two rocks into the house with her final stone to edge Fowler 6-5 in the Curlettes playoff at the Wheat City club in the Curlettes final, ending Fowler’s seven-year stint at the top of the league.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Elkhorn’s Shawn Bowles scored five goals and set up five others in three Manitoba Junior Hockey League games in the past seven days and was rewarded by being named the Recycle Everywhere player of the week.
