• 60 YEARS AGO — Keith Lange’s brilliant goaltending failed to support the Deloraine Wheat Kings as they suffered a 3-2 loss from Boissevain Border Kings. Glen Lawson scored two goals and assisted on the winner while Russ Pugh was credited with the game-winning goal.

• 50 YEARS AGO — Scott Clark’s 16 points led Smith Electro’s to an 83-22 whipping of the RCMP in Brandon Senior Men’s Basketball League action. Bob Meighen had nine for the Mounties.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Lauren Anderson scored a total of seven goals as C & E Locksmith won two women’s exhibition hockey games. Anderson scored four times as C & E edged Reston 5-4, then added three more as they blanked Gladstone 12-0.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Nolan Klassen, Dallas Holland, Shane Twerdun, Neil Kilborn and Mark Batten scored for the Vincent Massey Vikings in a 5-3 Westman High School Hockey League victory over the Rivers Rams. Cory Anderson, with two goals, and Jeff Shaw replied for the visitors. Massey goalie Anthony Lewis made 16 saves.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Neelin Spartans have made it through to the semifinals of the F.W. Johnson Cage Classic varsity boys basketball tournament after an opening-round win. The Spartans defeated Regina’s Martin Monarchs 67-62 in the quarter-final of the eight-team tournament. Jordan Nostedt, who has missed some action due to injury, scored a team-high 24 points.

• 10 YEARS AGO — Ryan Caldwell has landed in Norway. The free agent defenceman from Brandon has signed a contract with Lørenskog in the GET-ligaen, the top league in Norway. The 34-year-old played the last two seasons in Germany.
