• 60 YEARS AGO — West End got by A & W 2-1 in the Brandon Commercial Broomball League. Frank Henson scored both West End goals while Harvey Carroll replied for A&W.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Doug Yarish hooped 14 points in leading Earl Haig to a 40-37 overtime win over Earl Oxford in Brandon junior high school boys basketball action. Gary Culbertson led Oxford with 16 points.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Cartwright Clippers won their 20th straight SouthWest Hockey League game with a 10-4 victory over the Killarney Shamrocks. Tim Morrison scored three times and Robbie Maxwell twice.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The Neelin Spartans have repeated as champions of the F.W. Johnson Cage Classic varsity boys’ basketball tournament. Jordan Nostedt scored 17 points to lead the Spartans to a 63-47 win over the host F.W. Johnson Wildcats in the final.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Killarney’s Ciara Zarn, 17, a five-foot-six libero, has committed to play volleyball for the Lakehead Thunderwolves. She is one of Manitoba’s graduating all-stars who helped the Raiders high school team win provincial AA varsity girls’ titles in 2014 and 2015.
